The Macdonald Academy of Arms: Classes and Training

All students are required to follow tuition in the backsword as a single sword form for at least six months before being individually assessed for free fencing. After this time, more advanced technical backsword tuition can be given, along with tuition in facing multiple opponents, backsword and dagger, and backsword against smallsword, rapier and staff.

Free-fencing students are also welcome to request lessons in their preferred choice of weapon/martial form such as dagger defence, longsword, quarterstaff, rapier (Spanish or Italian), smallsword, Italian cane or classical foil, to name a few.

Every different weapon is a different tool for a different job, with each speaking it`s own specific martial dialect within the language of the Art. Training in any weapon is intensive, exciting and demanding, with each lesson developing the martial artists`s ability to command time, measure and strategy in any encounter, employing specific techniques and control of mind, body and weapon effectively.

New students are welcome to join at any time, as all members are taught progressively at their own level.

No experience is neccessary and the first lesson is free.
