The Macdonald Academy of Arms: Location, Schedule, and Fees

Regular training takes place at the Harry Younger Hall, Lochend Close, which runs between the Royal Mile (High Street) and Calton Road. Access is gained from either Calton Road or from the High Street (entrance on Canongate through the arches opposite the Edinburgh Organ Studio). Parking (free from 6:30pm onwards) can be found directly outside the hall by entering from Calton Road or if available, directly opposite the Edinburgh Organ Studio on the High Street.

This is the church hall of Edinburgh's Canongate Kirk, which was the last resting place of the venerable Sir William Hope, one of Scotlands most famous fencing masters and from who we take inspiration and continue in traditions of Art and swordsmanship.

Please note that regular Academy classes shall be held outdoors on the Meadows park in Edinburgh city centre for the months of August and September. Please contact for exact details.

Tuition

A student's first class is always free. Fees are payable in accordance with regularity of attendance:

Occasional Membership

Occasional membership is available for students attending less than four classes a month

£20 per annum registration
£10 per class (eq. £5 per hour)

Regular Membership

Regular membership is available for students attending one class per week or four in any month.

£20 per annum registration
£35 per month class fees (eq. £3.7 per hour)

Premium Membership

Premium membership is available for students attending all classes

£20 per annum registration
£ 45 per month class fees (eq. £2.50 per hour)

Private Lessons

Outside Academy hours, private individual or group lessons are available to all interested parties from within or without the Academy structure in their choice of weapon.

Individual Lessons - £30 per hour / £250 per day
Small Group (2-6) - £20 per hour per person / £100 per day per person
Group >6 - £50 per day per person
